Infant Formula Listed Organic…But Is Not!
Over 6000 letters have been sent to the FDA about the substitution of an
organic ingredient in infant foods that is not natural or organic, and is produced in
It is the mandate of the USDA’s own National Organic Program to protect organic farmers, producers, manufacturers, suppliers, etc from attack and contamination from all sorts of big business and genetically modified influences. Even so under NOP director Barbara Robinson’s watch, Martek Biosciences synthetic DHA
and ARA were allowed to be put in organic infant formula. These two oils are naturally produced in breast milk but Martek’s ingredients are manufactured from fermented algae and soil fungus with the use of a solvent petrochemical hexane, a neurotoxin.
Cornucopia Institute and the National Alliance for Breastfeeding Advocacy have filed a petition with the FDA to revise the labeling for infant formula containing these modified omega 3 and omega 6 oils.
The manufactured ingredients can cause diarrhea, vomiting and severe stomach pain in babies.
