Dr. Donald Robbins Testifies To The FDA Regarding Mercury Fillings
Well, 2 days of hearing on the safety of mercury containing dental filling wraps up with no clear decision about whether or not it is completely safe.
The adviser and panel team recommends the FDA review its 2009 ruling that mercury-filled dental amalgams are safe.
Still, during the hearing, several dentists spoke and supported the fillings as well as the FDA’s ruling.
Now, Dr. Ada Cooper of the American Dental Association, she supports using amalgam fillings.
Let’s listen.
Dr. Ada Cooper: Amalgam is not only safe and effective but it is an extremely important option that patients should have.
Newscaster: Amalgam fillings are often the cheapest and the longest lasting option but some blame them for health problems and joining me now to talk more about this is Doctor/Dentist Donald Robbins.
Newscaster: Dr. Robbins, you are vehemently opposed to these amalgam fillings.
Dr. Robbins: Absolutely.
Newscaster: Now, talk to me about them.
Dr. Robbins: The scientific evidence overwhelmingly is against mercury fillings. They give off mercury in vapor in the mouth amount. You inhale it and it goes into your body and causes a myriad of really serious health problems.
Two papers just recently published showed the direct relationship between mercury fillings, mercury and all kinds of diseases.
And we’ve known that for many years because I studied down at the University of Calgary and this mercury vapors given off in excess of what the governmental regulations and limits of sets of innovation mercury.
That’s why I testified to the FDA…
Newscaster: But then why, we’ve just heard this doctor, Dr. Cooper said that they are safe. The FDA says that they are safe. What’s going on here?
Dr. Robbins: Did you ever see the movie Jerry McGuire?
Newscaster: I did.
Dr. Robbins: What’s the life of Jerry McGuire? Follow the money.
Newscaster: They said that there’s too much at stake here.
Dr. Robbins: Aside from the big business that actually makes and manufactures the mercury, and it is sold by Henry Schein, the biggest seller in the world, the only one that advocates mercury is the American Dental Association. And to have a love affair with this stuff and they also put their seal of approval on it.
Newscaster: What are the alternatives? ‘Cause certainly 9 years ago, when I had my fillings, they were mercury and that’s all that was available but it sounds that you’re saying there are alternatives.
Dr. Robbins: Since ’82, I have been using only porcelain and rising fillings. They last just like mercury fillings. Nowadays, the cost is about the same as using mercury filling and they are much safer, and they last long. They don’t break the tooth. They hold the tooth together. What I really want to point to you and the audience is pregnant women, nursing mothers – do not get your mercury fillings taken out during that stage. It’s dangerous to the fetus. They are toxic and they can cause an increase in autism and autisim spectrum diseases.
Newscaster: We would love to bring you back to talk more about this because that’s bringing up a whole different topic. Thank you so much for coming.
Dr. Robbins: Thanks a lot.
