wide range, some can have twice the number as another person.  The number has no relationship to any weight you gain or lose.  It remains the same number.

Therefore, people with more fat cells can have a harder time losing weight than those with less.  And to make matters worse, the fat cells of overweight people can hold more fat then others who weigh less.  Fat cells are formed from about age two until adolescence.

So is all hope lost to lose weight for these people?

No but it does require more effort.  Research has shown that the less number of fat cells one has, and if they are overstuffed, this can lead to more obesity related diseases.  And if already overweight or obese, these fat cells are designed to make it more difficult to lose weight burning fat.

You must change your metabolism to be able to lose weight more easily.  Gaining as little as 11 pounds itself can slow metabolism and make it harder to lose weight.  So the more you gain weight, the harder to lose weight.  But starting to lose weight by adjusting your metabolism through physical exercise will help accelerate weight loss as you go.
